About cribbageonline.app

We publish a free, modern browser version of cribbage — the classic pegging and counting card game — played against a computer opponent, with exact automatic scoring and a layout that works on any screen.

Our craft

One deck. Exact counting.

Discard sharp, peg safe, count carefully. That loop is everything we design around.

What we make

A free cribbage game that stays in the browser

cribbageonline.app is the site behind our version of cribbage. The product is a 2-player card game: deal six cards each, discard two to the crib, cut a starter card, peg points during the play, and count every hand and the crib at the show — all played against a computer opponent.

We are not an app-store publisher and there is nothing to download. The game is the website. That keeps load times short, works on phones and desktops alike, and avoids an account wall. Games played, games won, best score, and win streak live in local browser storage on your device.

If you are comparing this to another cribbage site, this page only speaks for cribbageonline.app. The rules and scoring described in our how-to-play guide and FAQ match this exact build.

Our story

From a 17th-century pub game to your browser tab

Cribbage has one of the longest unbroken histories of any game people still play daily. We treat that as a responsibility to get the rules exactly right and the friction as close to zero as we can.

  1. 01

    A 17th-century invention

Cribbage is credited to the English poet and courtier Sir John Suckling in the early 1600s, who developed it from an earlier game called "Noddy." Unlike most historic card games, its rules have barely changed in four hundred years.

  2. 02

A board, not just a score sheet

Cribbage is unusual among card games for its physical scoring board — a track of holes players "peg" their way along during the play. That board is where the game gets its reputation as much a counting puzzle as a card game.

  3. 03

    This build

cribbageonline.app is an independent, modern implementation of that same ruleset, playable against a computer opponent. The rules are unchanged; what is new is exact automatic scoring, a layout that keeps the whole board on one phone screen, synthesized sound with a real mute, and a peg track that moves the moment you score.

What we stand for

Principles behind every hand

Instant to start

Open the page and a hand is ready to deal. No account wall, no download, no splash video — the cards are on the table before you finish reading this sentence.

Exact scoring

Every fifteen, pair, run, flush, and nobs is counted automatically and correctly, every hand. Nothing is gated behind a "pro" toggle and nothing nags you to install an app.

Yours to keep

Games played, games won, best score, and win streak live on your device. We do not hold your record hostage behind a login, because there is no login.

Free, for real

The whole game is free forever. No energy meters, no interstitial video ads between hands, no surprise paywall on the computer opponent.

Who it is for

Players who want a real game of cribbage

cribbageonline.app is a family-friendly, single-player-vs-computer game with no chat and no store. A poor fit if you want to play against a friend online; a good fit if you want the real game of cribbage, exactly as you remember it, on whatever screen is nearby.

  • Short sessions

A full game runs 10–20 minutes. Cribbage is built for a phone on the couch or a browser tab between tasks, not a long campaign.

  • Counting, not reflexes

There is no clock forcing a move and nothing to react to. The entire challenge is discarding well and counting accurately.

  • Play without an account

Your record stays on the device you played on. That is a deliberate trade: instant play and real privacy, with no cloud restore.

Why this site

How cribbageonline.app is different

Cribbage has plenty of implementations online, many of them dated or ad-heavy. This one exists to ship a single honest, fast version — correct rules, a real opponent, and no clutter.

  • The full game, not a demo

The deal, the crib, cutting the starter, the play with pegging for fifteens/pairs/runs/31/go, and the full show — every rule is implemented, with no shortcuts or simplified scoring.

  • A computer opponent that tries

The built-in opponent weighs discards against crib ownership and plays each card during the play with an eye on the risk it leaves behind, instead of moving at random.

  • No clutter

No auto-playing video, no fake "download our app" banners, no dark patterns around the settings. The how-to-play guide and FAQ describe this exact engine, not a generic write-up.

How we build

Designed for the browser you already have

The game runs entirely on the web: fast loads, tap or keyboard controls, and progress that stays local unless you clear your browser data. We use lightweight analytics to see what helps players — never to gate the game behind a profile. The engine on the home page is the one described on our rules pages, so search results and the live game never drift apart.

  • Play anywhere

Phone, tablet, and desktop share one board. Tap to select and play, or use the keyboard shortcuts for a faster hand.

  • Progress on your device

Games played, games won, best score, and streak are stored locally. You own the continuity of your record without signing up.

  • Quiet improvement

We watch aggregate usage through Google Analytics to improve pacing and polish. Details are in our Privacy Policy — never as a sales pitch.
